Our alumnae/i friends assist the department in several areas: funding graduate fellowships and other student awards; underwriting faculty and student research; and sharing our academic and outreach programs with the larger regional, national, and international community.
“Mitteilungen aus Madison,” our annual newsletter sent out in fall/winter, is our connection to our alumni, informing you about events and people in the Department of German. If you do not receive “Mitteilungen,” please let us know so that we can add you to our mailing list; and do send us news and developments in your professional and personal life to share.

- One of our alumnae, Lynn Wolff, participated in a radio discussion on the book Die deutsche Seele by Thea Dorn and Richard Wagner on Deutschlandradio Feb. 28, 2012. At present, the book ranks very high of the lists in Germany (for instance Der Spiegel: No 3). - Many of you attended the Wisconsin Workshop in Honor of Jost Hermand: “The Temptation of Hope: Utopian Thinking and Imagination” (Click here for WI Workshop Conference Photos) Honoring a living legend: Emeritus Professor Jost Hermand - "The University of Wisconsin campus celebrated Emeritus Professor Jost Hermand the weekend of September 9-11th. Hermand, professor emeritus of German, is widely considered the most famous living scholar of German literature and culture — and even at 80-years-old, Hermand still teachers in Berlin and at UW-Madison."
