Mini Lectures: Learning German at the UW-Madison
At the beginning of fall semesters, several teaching assistants and Monika Chavez offer mini lectures which explain to you how our teaching method and materials reflect current research into second/foreign language learning and teaching. These lectures are more or less the same regardless of who presents them. We provide several time slots to choose from. We require that all students new to our program attend ONE of these lectures, during their first semester in the program, no matter at which level they enter (German 101, 102, 203, or 204). Choose the one that best suits your schedule. You will find that, for example, class activities or book explanations that might have seemed silly or unorganized at first will start to make sense. We keep records of who attend. Non-attendance results in a penalty (a deduction from the final grade) described by your instructor.
