Graduate Program Booklet: Career PlanningFor graduate students interested in post-secondary teaching, career planning starts within the Department. We have a strong track record of placing our graduates around the country and internationally. In a time of shrinking numbers in foreign language instruction generally, which has led to the downsizing or even to the elimination of some German programs, we have a realistic sense of the opportunities. We maintain good contacts with our alumni and carefully advise our pending graduates on preparation of the employment dossier and interview procedures. For graduate students interested in other kinds of teaching careers or alternate employment (government, diplomacy, business, etc.), the University has several advising offices, including the Career Advising and Planning Services (CAPS), the Educational Placement and Career Service in the School of Education, and the Graduate School Student Services. These offices provide workshops, resume review, and extensive career libraries and on-line search facilities. |
